Kelsey Rahe has made great use of her time during this pandemic. While she was a student at the University of Wisconsin, Kelsey signed up for Be The Match – that’s the largest bone marrow registry in the world, helping those with blood cancers. The people who suffer from this disease are at high risk if they were to contract the coronavirus.
In March, two years after signing up, Kelsey got the call. She was a match for a middle-aged man in Ohio. Even though the pandemic hit the U.S. and people were staying at home, Kelsey and her father got on a plane and traveled to the hospital in Cincinnati where she underwent the bone marrow procedure.
Kelsey felt that this was all fate because she had lost her mother a year to the day of the procedure. She felt this was a way to honor her mother’s memory. And, although she may never know who the person is that she helped, Kelsey feels like they saved each other. By doing this, she helped her family heal after the loss of her mom.
