The Song Remembers When: Luke Combs – “She Got The Best Of Me”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Luke Combs’ fourth number one hit, “She Got The Best Of Me,” was written while he was attending college in North Carolina.

Now, a college friend had set up a writing session in Nashville. But, when the day came for him to head to Music City, the friend was too hung over, so Luke went in his place. It was only Luke’s second trip to Nashville, but he was armed with a good idea that he had in his phone: “It Got The Best Of Me.”

Luke brought that title into the session with songwriters Rob Snyder and Channing Wilson. And, when Channing heard the idea, he suggested that Luke change it to “She Got The Best Of Me.” Luke said that they started pulling from their personal experiences of breakups and heartaches and wrapped them all up in the song.

It went on to become a four-week number one back in the Fall of 2018, and it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When. Here’s Luke Combs with “She Got The Best Of Me.”
