Heroes of the Week: The FarmLink Project

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

College students from various universities have banded together to help our country with it’s current food crisis. When colleges shut down in March, along with restaurants, due to the pandemic, farmers were left with a surplus of food. Those farms were forced to destroy their crops even though food banks were being hit hard with extra demand.

So, students like Max Goldman realized that they needed to find a way to get the food from the farmers to the food banks – that’s when The FarmLink Project was born. Through this organization, a team of students from universities like Brown, Stanford, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, and so many more have dedicated their time to coordinate food from farms to food banks. So far, they’ve delivered over 800 pounds of food around the country.

They make sure the farms, suppliers, and truck drivers are financially taken care of by raising funds from folks like you, our listeners. The FarmLink Project is closing in on one million dollars raised so far, but there is still more work to be done.

Kix’s Response:

Wow! I think many of us have heard the news of these farms destroying their crops because restaurants and schools were closed and that was hard to hear knowing that so many have lost jobs and were in need of help. Food insecurity is a big problem in our country, and the pandemic just took it to another level.

So, to Max Goldman and all of the students who started The FarmLink Project, you are this week’s ACC Heroes!
