The Song Remembers When: Old Dominion – “Song For Another Time”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In December 2016, Old Dominion would reach the top of the chart with “Song For Another Time” from their debut album Meat and Candy. The song was written by band members Brad Tursi, Matthew Ramsey, and Trevor Rosen, along with songwriter Matt Jenkins.

The guys were on their bus during a tour with Kenny Chesney when the idea came to Matthew Ramsey to play with the wording of a popular phrase – “That’s a story for another time.” He wanted to swap out the word “story” and replace it with “song” instead. The songwriters all got together and thought that the lyrics could be about letting go of a relationship. And, they thought that they could use of song titles to tell the couple’s story. In fact, they ended up namechecking 20 song titles in all. When they finished it up, they sang it in the middle of an empty stadium during their soundcheck.

And, apparently, the guys liked what they heard. The song made the final cut for their debut album in the 11th hour! And, it went on to become the group’s second number one.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Old Dominion’s “Song For Another Time.”
