The Song Remembers When: Brantley Gilbert – “One Hell Of An Amen”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In August 2015, Brantley Gilbert hit number one with the song “One Hell Of An Amen.” He co-wrote it with Brian Davis and Mike Dekle right after he’d returned from a USO Tour.

Brantley said that the tour prompted him to write the song, but most of the story came from one of his friends Josh who was an Army Ranger. Josh told him about how he had lost one of his closest friends while on a tour of duty. He was driving behind his friend’s Humvee when it was blown up. Although Brantley was not there in that moment, he felt like he could see it all in detail from his conversation with Josh.

Brantley would later meet the fallen soldier’s sister and said that hearing her words about the song was worth more than a number one hit… But, as it turned out, he got both.

Here’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Brantley Gilbert with “One Hell Of An Amen.”
