The Song Remembers When: Maren Morris – “The Bones”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In February, Maren Morris spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with “The Bones.” It was written by Maren, Jimmy Robbins, and Laura Veltz.

Laura brought the title to the writing session. And, Maren said that the reason that they get along so well as songwriters is because Laura always brings weird titles to their writes, but she can turn them into something sentimental and relatable.

Now, the three writers started talking about their relationships. Maren was engaged to Ryan Hurd at the time and felt a very solid connection. Laura felt the same with her marriage and her children. And, Jimmy had just found out that his wife was pregnant. They felt that their relationships were on strong footing, so they began picturing them like the bones of a house. Even if a hurricane or a storm or wolves come along, the structure and the foundation of the house is still there.  As Maren said, “You can rip it down to the studs, but the bones are still there.”

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Maren Morris with “The Bones.”
