The Song Remembers When: Chris Janson – “Buy Me A Boat”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Chris Janson was introduced to the country music audience in 2015 when his song “Buy Me A Boat” became his first hit as an artist. Prior to that, Chris had written a big hit for Tim McGraw titled “Truck Yeah.”

For the writing of “Buy Me A Boat,” Chris teamed up with another Chris – Chris DuBois. And, when they sat down together for a writing session, neither of them had any ideas. They were about to break for lunch and that’s when DuBois threw out the line “Buy me a boat.” And, Janson started thinking of things he identified with – “redneck,” “white trash,” and “blue collar” – from there, the song practically wrote itself.

The song that would become Chris Janson’s breakthrough hit, peaking at number three in September 2015. And, it’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – “Buy Me A Boat.”
