The Song Remembers When: Eric Church – “Round Here Buzz”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2018, Eric Church landed inside the Top 5, peaking just shy of number one, with “Round Here Buzz,” from his album Mr. Misunderstood. Eric co-wrote the song with Luke Dick and Jeff Hyde. Now, this was the first time that Luke met Eric, but it proved to be a prolific day as they wrote two songs – “Round Here Buzz” and “Kill A Word.”

Eric had the idea and the chorus for “Round Here Buzz,” and the three of them worked on the verses. The lines about the bleachers, Scotty’s bar, and “never been east of Dallas” were all true. They came from Luke’s experience of growing up in Oklahoma. Luke said that what makes a great song is true life.

The three of them worked on the song in the studio with producer Jay Joyce, and it was one of those days where you just kind of struggle with finding the pocket of the song. And, finally, Eric decided to just go in and play it. Well, they did and that led to them finding the sound they were searching for.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Eric Church and “Round Here Buzz.”
