In June 2015, Florida Georgia Line scored their seventh career number one with “Sippin’ On Fire.” The song was written by Matt Dragstrem and Cole Taylor, along with Rodney Clawson. Matt and Cole met for the first time when they got started on this song. Matt had the idea but it wasn’t really coming together for them.
The chorus came first. Now, “sippin’ on fire” was a line in the chorus… They liked the idea of playing with fire – you know, it’s not good for you but you can’t let it go.
When Florida Georgia Line’s manager heard it, he thought that the song would be good for the duo but felt it needed some help. So, he brought in Rodney Clawson – a great Nashville songwriter – to give it some fine-tuning. Rodney said that the chorus was there but the verses needed some work. And, the result is what you hear today.
When Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard of FGL heard it for the first time, they felt like it had a great hook and was the perfect song to release as their third single from their album Anything Goes.
