The Song Remembers When: Jason Aldean Featuring Miranda Lambert – “Drowns The Whiskey”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2018, Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert were at the top of the chart with “Drowns The Whiskey.” It was written by Josh Thompson, Jeff Middleton, and Brandon Kinney.

Five years prior to that, Josh, who is also a recording artist, was out on the road and that’s when he wrote this song. He was on his tour bus and invited Brandon Kinney to join him and his guitar player to try and write a few.

Well, Brandon wanted to write a twist on the idea of how whiskey can drown a memory. And, he thought, “What if something stronger can drown the whiskey?” They held onto the song for years but didn’t record a demo. But, once they did, well, they knew they had something special.

Jason Aldean got a hold of the song and decided to make it a duet with Miranda Lambert. The writers hadn’t envisioned it as a duet, but once they heard Miranda’s part, they said that it pushed it over the edge. There was magic there, and the song became a two week chart-topping hit.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert with “Drowns the Whiskey.”
