The Song Remembers When: Old Dominion – “Written In The Sand”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2018, Old Dominion would go on to score their fourth number one with “Written In The Sand.” It was a collaboration between band members Matthew Ramsey, Brad Tursi, and Trevor Rosen, along with their producer Shane McAnally.

Matt had this idea that at some point in a relationship, the couple will want to define what they are and where they’re going. The original title that he had was “The Stars And The Sand.” Trevor got the meaning behind it – if it’s the stars, it was always meant to be, but if it’s the sand, the relationship won’t last.

Matt, Trevor, and Brad had another song that they were writing at the time and remembered the line, “I see those bubbles pop up like you’re texting,” and decided to put that into this song instead. Matt said that it’s something we all go through and when the bubbles disappear with no text, it can be crushing. They loved that it’s just so relatable and real.

Well, fans and radio loved it, too, and the song went all the way to number one! Here’s this week’s The Song Remembers When – Old Dominion and “Written In The Sand.”
