The Song Remembers When: Chris Janson – “Drunk Girl”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In October 2018, Chris Janson reached inside the Top 10 with his song “Drunk Girl.” It would get people talking about a subject that was, well, rarely talked about. Co-written by Chris, Tom Douglas, and Scooter Carusoe, Chris said that it was Tom who had the idea about writing from a father’s perspective. It was about how guys should treat young women.

When Chris first heard the idea, he said that it about knocked him off his feet. He knew that if the song was done right, being truthful and not preachy, it could really make a difference in the lives of guys and girls.

The song came together over cigars and beautiful piano playing by Tom Douglas. Chris said that there were a lot of tears flowing during the writing session. And, initially, they thought Tim McGraw would be perfect guy for the song, but Chris’s wife Kelly convinced him to hold on to it for his album Everybody.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Chris Janson and “Drunk Girl.”
