The Song Remembers When: Russell Dickerson – “Blue Tacoma”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Russell Dickerson landed his second career number one in October 2018 with “Blue Tacoma.” It was a song that he wrote with Casey Brown and Parker Welling – the same writers behind Russell’s first chart-topper “Yours.”

Parker started telling the guys that she and her ex-boyfriend always had a dream of doing a road trip along the coast of California in his Blue Toyota Tacoma – that sparked the idea for the song. When they had finished, Russell felt it was good but thought that it had the potential to be great. It just needed some research.

So, Russell and his wife Kailey spent a month driving up and down the California coast really taking in that experience. When they returned to Nashville, he met up with his co-writers and they re-wrote the song. Russell said that the second verse is a play-by-play of what really happened when they pulled over on the side of the road to take in the view.

It’s this week’s The Song Remembers When… Here’s Russell Dickerson with “Blue Tacoma.”
