The Song Remembers When: Old Dominion – “One Man Band”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Last year, Old Dominion took home an ACM Award in the Song of the Year category for “One Man Band.” That award that not only goes to the artist but the songwriters as well. It was written by Matthew Ramsey, Brad Tursi, and Trevor Rosen, along with songwriter Josh Osborne. It became the band’s seventh career number one back in December 2019.

According to Matt, it was Brad who kept on the guys about writing the song. They had the idea and finished it out on the road. And, they felt that this one was really the band’s first true love song.

Matt said that they all loved the double meaning of the tune. It could be seen as a romantic relationship or it could be about sharing the stage with guys you connect with, and for them that’s what it was. They can’t imagine going down the road in country music alone. None of them would want to be a “one man band.”
