Hero of the Week: Zhu Keming

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

You may have heard about the ultramarathon that took place in northwest China. During the 62-mile course, an unexpected ice storm moved in and the 172 runners who were on that course started to succumb to hypothermia.

A shepherd, who tends his flock in the area, spotted some of the runners in distress. He was able to help several of them get to a cave that he often uses while in the area. He started a fire and wrapped them in blankets.

Although lives were lost on the mountain that night, the shepherd named Zhu Keming was able to get six runners to safety. He said that he was just in the right place at the right time. But, he put his own life at risk to run into the hail and freezing temperatures to look for as many runners as he could find.
