The Song Remembers When: Dierks Bentley – “Home”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Dierks Bentley landed his ninth number one back in 2012 with the title cut off his album Home. He wrote the song with longtime collaborator Brett Beavers, along with Dan Wilson. Dan is the lead singer for the alt rock band Semisonic, but he is known in the world of country music for co-writing “Not Ready To Make Nice” with The Chicks.

“Home” was written right about the time of the 2011 shooting that took place in Tucson, Arizona, that left U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords with debilitating injuries. Dierks, who is an Arizona native, said that the idea for the song was to bring some healing to a nation that was facing a lot of challenges. He added that, as a touring artist, the stories of the folks he has met along the way inspired him to write this one.

The song struck a chord with fans and went on to top the chart in March 2012.
