The Song Remembers When: Miranda Lambert – “Settling Down”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

When Miranda Lambert met her husband Brendan McLoughlin back in 2018, things got serious quickly, but she felt a bit at odds with where she was in her life. The self-described gypsy was still very much attracted to road life but, at the same time, she was looking forward to being home and focusing on her new relationship.

Miranda’s mother would often describe her as a “wild child and a homing pigeon,” and it was that line that Miranda would bring to her writing appointment with Natalie Hemby and Luke Dick, the same two writers who helped pen “Bluebird.” They all felt that a well-lived life was all about balancing two feelings that sometimes can be at odds with each other and the big question Miranda was asking, “Am I settling up or settling down?“

“Settling Down” landed on Miranda’s 2019 album Wildcard, a project that was awarded a Grammy for Best Country Album. The song peaked at number six in June this past summer becoming Miranda’s fourteenth Top 10 hit.
