The Song Remembers When: Jason Aldean – “Night Train”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Jason Aldean took “Night Train” to number one in October 2013. It was written by Neil Thrasher and Michael Dulaney, who had written “Tattoos On This Town” and “Fly Over States” – both of which became big hits for Jason.

At the time, Jason was producing an artist by the name of Kristy Lee Cook. He knew Neil and Michael’s work and asked if they had something for her. The writers sent him “Night Train.” But, the more he played it for Kristy Lee, the more he realized it wasn’t right for her but it fit him perfectly.

The song represented how far Jason had come in his career. By now, he’d acquired multiple buses and semi-trucks for his tours. He had come a long way from those days of going on the road with a bus and a little trailer for just him and his band – he had an entire crew now. When they pulled out of a venue, all the buses and trucks gave the appearance of a “night train.” Jason knew that making the song the title of the album would pretty much sum it all up.

“Night Train” was the fourth single from Jason’s fifth album. The song spent a total of two weeks at the top of the chart.
