The Song Remembers When: Dierks Bentley – “Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go)”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In November 2007, Dierks Bentley landed his fifth number one with “Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go).” He wrote it with frequent collaborator and producer Brett Beavers, along with Rod Harrington and Rod Janzen.

Dierks had started the song while out on the road with the two Rods who were a part of his band. When he got back into Nashville, Dierks brought the song idea to Brett Beavers. Brett and Dierks had written four number ones together, so they had great chemistry as songwriters, and it worked again.

“Free And Easy (Down The Road I Go)” was the third single from Dierks’ album Long Trip Alone.
