The Song Remembers When: Billy Currington – “People Are Crazy”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Billy Currington scored his third career number one in 2009 with “People Are Crazy” from his Little Bit Of Everything album. The song was written by Bobby Braddock and Troy Jones, and it was Troy who initially came up with the idea.

He was driving through his home state of Alabama trying to come up with three things you can’t argue with. That’s when he came up with “God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.” He brought the idea to Bobby, and he loved it.

Apparently, there was a line of artists wanting to record this one, but Billy really wanted it.  He said that just the title alone made it want to sing it. He would eventually get the green light.

The paring of Billy Currington and this song was a matched made in heaven. Not only would this song top the chart for two weeks, it also earned two Grammy nominations for Best Country Song and Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
