The Song Remembers When: Dan + Shay – “Glad You Exist”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

This past summer, Dan + Shay went to the top of the Chart with “Glad You Exist.” It is the third single from the duo’s latest album Good Things. Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney wrote the song with Tayla Parx, Ryan Lewis, and Jordan Reynolds.

Dan shares that the idea was inspired by what he always says to his wife Abby – he’s glad she exists and he’s grateful that she’s in his life. He wrote the phrase down in his phone and brought it to Shay who loved it.

During the pandemic, Dan felt the sentiment of the song took on an even bigger meaning beyond his marriage. The feeling of being thankful for everyone in our lives, our families, and our friends really hit home for not only the duo but for their fans as well. The guys say that ultimately this is a song of hope and gratitude.

“Glad You Exist” became Dan + Shay’s eighth number one on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart in August 2021, right around the time the duo released their fourth studio album.
