The Song Remembers When: Chris Stapleton – “Broken Halos”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In March 2018, Chris Stapleton would score his very first number one with “Broken Halos.” Chris and his frequent collaborator Mike Henderson wrote the song about six years ago, and it was featured as the second single on his album From A Room: Volume 1.

“Broken Halos” is about those who passed away before their time. Chris started writing the song the same day he’d gotten word that a very close friend of his had lost his battle with cancer.  They were the same age, at the time, 38, and they grew up together in Kentucky, playing on the same little league team. His loss left Chris heartbroken.

In 2018, Chris took home a Grammy for Best Country Song in 2018 due to the impact of “Broken Halos.” It also swept the Single and Song of the Year categories at the CMA Awards later that year.
