The Song Remembers When: Luke Bryan – “Move”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In November 2016, Luke Bryan secured a two-week number one hit with “Move,” a song he wrote with Michael Carter and Jay Clementi.

Luke said that it was a challenge to write because there’s a fine line you must walk with a song like “Move.”  He felt a wrong word or lyric could make it feel cheesy. But, ultimately, Luke loved where they landed. It was just what he needed – an upbeat song that he could really get into performing live on stage.

Luke’s idea was to have a song that would literally get people moving in dance clubs. In addition to the sound and driving beat, there’s a story at the heart of it. It follows a shy young woman who moves to the South. Once there, she connects with some friends who teach her how to let her hair down and have a good time.

“Move” is the fifth of six singles from Luke’s 2015 album Kill The Lights. All six of those songs ended up becoming number one songs making Luke the first artist to accomplish that feat in the history of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
