The Song Remembers When: Sam Hunt – “Leave The Night On”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

In 2014, Sam Hunt was having success as a songwriter. He penned Kenny Chesney’sCome Over,” Billy Currington’s We Are Tonight,” and Keith Urban’sCop Car.” But, it was a song titled “Leave The Night On” that would put Sam on the map and serve as a spring board for his career as an artist.

According to Sam, the initial song, which he wrote with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, was, as he put it, “very unassuming.” As he started to work on the rest of the songs for his debut album Montevallo, producer Zach Crowell continued to add elements to “Leave the Night On.” When all was said and done, Sam felt that song really stood up well against the others they had written.

The song went on to become his debut single and eventually his first number one as an artist. And, it did so in pretty quick fashion, jumping to the top of the chart in just 21 weeks!
