The Song Remembers When: Gabby Barrett – “The Good Ones”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

“The Good Ones” was the follow-up to Gabby Barrett’s debut single and first number one “I Hope.” These two songs couldn’t be more opposite and that was intentional. After having her first hit tell the story of a vengeful breakup, Gabby wanted to pay tribute to all the “good ones” out there like her husband Cade Foehner.

Gabby and Cade met while they were contestants on American Idol. When people asked her how her boyfriend was, Gabby would always answer, “Good. He’s one of the good ones.” She held on to that idea and brought it to a writing session with songwriters Zach Kale, Emily Landis, and Jim McCormick.

“The Good Ones,” from Gabby’s debut album Goldmine, earned a CMA nomination for Song and Single of the Year. It won Favorite Country Song at the 2021 American Music Awards, and Gabby was awarded Female Video of the Year at the 2021 CMT Music Awards. And, in April 2021, it topped the chart for a total of three consecutive weeks.
