We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Songwriters: Thomas Rhett, Sean Douglas, and Joe Spargur
Album: Life Changes
In 2018, Thomas Rhett was on a roll with six consecutive number ones! He had just released “Sixteen,” the final single from his Life Changes album. Although it was the last released, it was the first one written for the album.
According to Thomas, it played an important part in shaping the album. He wrote the song when he was 25, but he felt that, regardless of how old you are, the song is still relatable. If you’re 15 or 16, you’re wanting to rush your life and wanting to be older. If you’re over 80, you’re reminiscing back to the days when you were 16.
In January 2019, “Sixteen” became Thomas’ 12th number one and his fifth from Life Changes.
