This past April, Sam Hunt rose to the top of the countdown with a nostalgic story of being happy with the time spent with a former sweetheart, back when they were 23.
Sam said that he had the idea for some time. It wasn’t until he met two of his co-writers Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne on the beach down in Florida that the lyrics all came together. Sam said maybe it was the beach that brought the song out of them, but he felt that he was always just one phrase or title away from writing the tune.
“23” was released in September 2021, and by the following spring, it became Sam’s ninth number one.
