We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Albums: All Your Fault, Pt. 2 (Bebe Rexha EP) | Expectations (Bebe Rexha) | Greatest Hits (Florida Georgia Line)

This year marks the five-year anniversary of one of the most successful songs in country music history “Meant To Be.” In 2017, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line were writing in Los Angeles when pop artist Bebe Rexha stopped by the studio. Bebe’s intent was only to say hello, but Tyler’s wife Hayley told him, “This was ‘meant to be’!”

The writers took that thought to heart and in a couple of hours, they had a lot of the song written. Bebe said she wasn’t sure she wanted to sing on the song with FGL. She wasn’t a country singer, even though a lot of her favorite artists had taken chances. But, she came around to the idea and finally said, “A good song is a good song!’”

In 2018, “Meant To Be” busted down boundaries, introducing Bebe Rexha to country fans and the success of the song allowed her to buy her first home. It also expanded FGL’s pop and international appeal. “Meant To Be” was a game-changer for all of them. And, Tyler shared that it was a reminder of the power of a good song and what it can do for a career and for the fans.

Between 2017 and 2018, “Meant To Be” ruled Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart for 50 weeks. It also went to number one on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in April 2018, delivering Florida Georgia Line their 12th chart-topper on ACC and Bebe her first.
