The Song Remembers When: Kelsea Ballerini – “Hole In The Bottle”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Hole In The Bottle”
Songwriters: Kelsea Ballerini, Jesse Frasure, Hillary Lindsey, Ashley Gorley, and Steph Jones
Album: kelsea

In Spring 2020, Kelsea Ballerini released “Hole In the Bottle” as a single from her self-titled third album. Kelsea debuted the song at the annual Country Radio Seminar in February, calling it her first drinking song! She described it as a silly, upbeat song about drinking your heartbreak away.

When Kelsea was down in Florida with songwriters Jesse Frasure, Hillary Lindsey, Ashley Gorley, and Steph Jones, they’d all gone out to celebrate finishing up writing for her album. They had a few bottles of wine to celebrate and came back to the house and started writing “Hole In The Bottle.” The next morning, Kelsea listened to the demo which was a bit of a mess, but she thought the song was a lot of fun and decided it needed to be on the record.

“Hole In The Bottle” peaked just shy of the top spot in February 2021. Kelsea added to the fun of this one with the release of a version featuring one of her heroes – Shania Twain.
