The Song Remembers When: Sam Hunt – “Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90s”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90s”
Songwriters: Sam Hunt, Zach Crowell, Chris LaCorte, Josh Osborne, and Ernest K. Smith
Album: Southside

In October 2020, Sam Hunt released the fifth and final single from his album Southside. “Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90s” came in at the last moment. Sam loved how it turned out, so he added it to the album.

Songwriter Josh Osborne called Sam and said, “I’ve got something that sounds like you.” He shared it with Sam who loved the concept! It was all about being fed up with seeing your former girlfriend enjoying her life on social media after a breakup. So, Sam rented a cabin outside Nashville for a writing session and invited Josh, as well as Ernest, Chris LaCorte, and producer Zach Crowell, to finish up the song.

By May 2021, Sam had his eighth career number one with “Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90s.”
