The Song Remembers When: Cody Johnson – “’Til You Can’t”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “’Til You Can’t”
Songwriters: Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers
Album: Human: The Double Album

Cody Johnson scored his first number one in March 2022 with “’Til You Can’t” from his album Human: The Double Album. When Cody first heard the song, he immediately thought of his own life.

Back in 2021, he and his wife, Brandi, were on a private jet that almost went down. For about 30 minutes Cody stared at his wife and thought, “This is it.” He thought of his children and why he didn’t make more time to play with them. Cody’s regrets on not prioritizing what was most important came to his mind.

Cody hoped this song would strike a chord with the younger generation who may feel like life is “owed to them.” He shares, “There isn’t enough time with our loved ones. Life isn’t coming to you, you have to go out and get it!”

The song was released as a single in October 2021. After the topping of the chart for two weeks, Cody took home multiple awards – Single and Music Video of the Year at the CMA Awards and two CMT Music Awards. Plus, songwriters Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers earned honors for Best Country Song at the Grammy Awards.
