Song: “Chasing After You”

Back in 2013, songwriters Ryan Hurd and Maren Morris were just getting to know each other during writing sessions on Nashville’s Music Row. Ryan said it was around that time that they’d go out and have a drink together. They really started to form a bond and eventually became a couple. They both described those early years of their relationship as “challenging.” They had ended the relationships they were in because couldn’t deny the feelings they had for each other.
When Ryan was working on his debut album Pelago, he was pitched “Chasing After You.” The song immediately struck him as his story with Maren. The demo was recorded by songwriter Jerry Flowers, who also happens to be Keith Urban’s bass player. Ryan described the demo as one of “the more stunning recordings that he’s ever heard.”
Released in March 2021, Ryan and Maren performed it together at the ACM Awards. That following November, “Chasing After You” peaked inside the Top 5.
