Songs like “Only In America,” “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me,” “Dust On The Bottle,” Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo,” and “What’s Forever For” are part of country music’s fabric. The songwriters behind them are on their way to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Kix Brooks, Keith Urban, David Lee Murphy, Casey Beathard, and Rafe Van Hoy make up the 2023 class entering the Hall on October 11th during the 53rd Anniversary Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala at Nashville’s Music City Center. John Jarrard will be inducted posthumously in the Legacy category. And, Bobby Bare will be honored with the Frances Williams Preston Mentor Award. In Suzanne Alexander’s News segment on American Country Countdown, airing August 12-13, 2023, Kix spoke about what this honor means to him:
“Me and Ronnie [Dunn] have been blessed with a lot of cool stuff, but, man, when I got that call, I literally could not speak. I’ve heard of people being so emotional [that] they couldn’t talk, that’s never happened to me… But, man, that one got me. I really kind of thought it might have passed me by, and it’s why I came to this town in the first place, so wow. I’ve got a lot of buddies in the [Nashville Songwriters] Hall of Fame, too, so that’s a night I’m really looking forward to.”
