The Song Remembers When: Tim McGraw – “One Of Those Nights”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “One Of Those Nights”
Songwriters: Luke Laird, Rodney Clawson, and Chris Tompkins
Album: Two Lanes Of Freedom

In 2012, Tim McGraw released his first album for his new label home, Big Machine Records. The project was titled Two Lanes Of Freedom and ultimately featured a couple of number ones including “One Of Those Nights.”

Tim has always been drawn to songs that are nostalgic. This song not only causes you to reminisce on past good times but also look ahead to the future. When he was recording this one, it was exactly where Tim was in his life and career.

The songwriters – Luke Laird, Rodney Clawson, and Chris Tompkins – were holding their breath hoping the song would make the album because Tim had recorded the song a year before its release. Thankfully, it did, and Tim premiered the song at the CMA Awards in 2012 to launch the single’s release to radio.

Within 17 weeks, Tim landed at the top of the chart where “One Of Those Nights” held onto become a three-week number one.
