The Song Remembers When: Old Dominion – “Memory Lane”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Memory Lane”
Songwriters: Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Brad Tursi, and Jessie Jo Dillon
Album: Memory Lane

Old Dominion started the year with the release of their song “Memory Lane.” It would become the title track of the band’s fifth studio album. Old Dominion’s Brad Tursi, Matthew Ramsey, and Trevor Rosen wrote the song along with Jessie Jo Dillon, daughter of famed Hall of Fame songwriter Dean Dillon.

The writing appointment took place at Brad’s house. They were all in the same head space to write a song that was very nostalgic. The group shared memories of sunsets, jean jackets, and a desire to remain carefree.

Matt said those memories provided a sense of comfort and inspiration. Reminiscing about a person or a feeling can serve as a mental retreat that can be accessed at any time. Sometimes we wish we could just stay there and never leave.

“Memory Lane” peaked inside the Top Five, at number four, in July.
