The Song Remembers When: Eli Young Band – “Love Ain’t”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Love Ain’t”
Songwriters: Ross Copperman, Ashley Gorley, and Shane McAnally
Album: This Is Eli Young Band: Greatest Hits

In 2018, Eli Young Band released the song “Love Ain’t” written by a trio of the top songwriters in Nashville – Ross Copperman, Ashley Gorley, and Shane McAnally. It was a song about all the things love isn’t and ultimately leads the listener to understanding exactly what love is.

Not only was “Love Ain’t” a big hit on the radio, it also was accompanied by an impactful video. The group did a lot of work with the Wounded Warrior Project and wanted to create the ultimate love story. The band’s Mike Eli said that they were moved by one couple’s story, quadruple amputee Taylor Morris and his wife, Danielle. Their ability to weather all that was thrown at them and still be there for each other was inspirational.

Released in the summer of 2018, “Love Ain’t” made it to the top of the chart in May of the following year. It marked the group’s first number one in six years and the fourth of their career to date.
