Heroes of the Week: Chris Crowder, an Airman, and the Students of Layton Christian Academy

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

In Utah, a young mom and her two children, both under five years old, were in the parking lot of Layton Christian Academy. The mother, who worked at the nearby church’s day care, was heading to her car when a slow-moving vehicle was backing up in the lot. Blinded by the sun, the driver accidentally backed over the mother and her two children.

Chris Crowder, the CEO of the school, saw what happened and yelled for students to come help. There happened to be an active-duty member of the Air Force who also responded to his cry for assistance. They all ran over to the car which had stopped on top of the mother and one of the children. One of the kids managed to crawl out under their own power. The crowd that gathered teamed together to lift the car and the airman pulled the mother and her child out from under the vehicle.

It was only a few minutes but in a critical situation, every second counts. The mom underwent surgery for non-life-threatening injuries and the children had minor abrasions.

Kix’s Response:

What a scary situation… Something so normal as walking to your car can wind up a life-or-death situation. So, Chris Crowder, the airman, and the students at that school who reacted so quickly, you all are our ACC Heroes.
