The Song Remembers When: Kane Brown – “One Mississippi”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “One Mississippi”
Songwriters: Kane Brown, Jesse Frasure, Levon Gray, ERNEST
Album: Different Man

In the summer of 2021, Kane Brown was trying to decide which song he would choose as the lead single for his third studio album. Different Man had 17 songs, so there was no shortage of choices. But, after getting feedback from radio folks and his label, Kane felt confident that they should release “One Mississippi.”

One of the writers on the song is Levon Gray. Prior to this song’s success, Levon was an undiscovered talent from Alabama who had reached out to Kane on social media. After sending him a song, Kane liked it so much that he invited Levon to come to Nashville and write with him, ERNEST, and Jesse Frasure.

Levon had the title “One Mississippi” which clicked instantly with everyone. Once it was written, Kane not only recorded the song but signed Levon to his publishing company Verse 2.

After its release to radio, “One Mississippi” reached the top of the ACC Chart in March 2022, becoming Kane’s seventh number one.
