The Song Remembers When: Keith Urban – “Somewhere In My Car”

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Song: “Somewhere In My Car”
Songwriters: Keith Urban and J.T. Harding
Album: Fuse

In 2013, Keith Urban released his album Fuse. The album featured several songs about cars, two of which were big hits for Keith: “Cop Car” and “Somewhere In My Car.” The latter song was written by Keith and J.T. Harding.

According to Keith, he was on his way to a writing session with J.T., and he was listening to a song he had downloaded. The song had this energy he loved. When he got to the session with J.T., he asked him to get in the car and listen to the song. Keith told him, “This is the kind of energy we need. Let’s write something like this!”

Keith admits he has a thing for cars. He loves all the human experiences that can occur in a car – break ups to make ups and make outs! And, “Somewhere in My Car” isn’t as much about the car as it is about remembering what happened in the backseat!

The song took only 24 weeks to reach the top of the Countdown where it remained for two weeks in December 2014.
