Hero of the Week: Debra McKay

Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Hero of the Week… Find out how you can nominate a Hero of the Week at the bottom of the page.

This week, Elizabeth Batista emailed us to nominate Debra McKay as ACC’s Hero. She writes:

Dear Kix,

I wanted to highlight an amazing woman, mother, and friend who has dedicated her life to rescuing horses and other farm animals. Debra McKay of 4R Animal Shelter in Lee, Maine, gives her time and energy, and often shortchanges herself, to ensure that the animals have food and medical care. She has been the executive director of 4R Animal Shelter since it began in 2012. The shelter relies solely on donations, and there are no paid employees.

Deb is also a single mom who raised her two children. Those kids now have families of their own. If all that wasn’t enough, Deb has fostered many children over the last decade who come from very challenging situations.

If you’re ever in need, you can always count on Deb to help in any way possible. Deb is my hero, and I am honored to call her my friend.

Signed,
Elizabeth

Kix’s Response:

Wow, that’s quite a story! Deb sounds like an amazing person.

For the work you’re doing on behalf of these rescues and helping foster kids, Debra McKay, of Maine, we’re happy to recognize you as our ACC Hero this week!
