Album: Human: The Double Album
In October 2021, Cody Johnson released Human: The Double Album. The second single from the project was the title track.
Even though it was autobiographical for Cody, he didn’t write it. It was written by Travis Meadows and Tony Lane. Tony was one of the songwriters behind “On My Way To You,” Cody’s breakout hit from his major label debut album (Ain’t Nothin’ To It).
“Human” was a song that had been around for several years, but Tony couldn’t find an artist willing to record it. That is, until Cody’s producer Trent Willmon heard the song.
Cody said it sounded like someone had gotten his story into a three-and-a-half-minute song. It really addresses that balance of trying to remain who you are even after success comes your way. It’s a line that every artist walks and it’s not easy. Cody loved the song so much that he named his 18-song album after it.
“Human” went on to peak just inside the Top 10 in June 2023.
