We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Song: “Strip It Down”
Songwriters: Luke Bryan, Jon Nite, and Ross Copperman
Album: Kill the Lights
In August 2015, Luke Bryan released his song “Strip It Down” as the second single from his Kill the Lights album.
At the time, Luke was looking to write with guys he hadn’t worked with before and that desire led him to songwriters Ross Copperman and Jon Nite. One night, Ross and Jon came out to Luke’s farm to write. At the end of the session, Ross started playing something on the piano. Luke liked what he heard and thought it had this “sexy vibe” to it, so they all stayed to write the song.
For Luke, he didn’t have anything that was a “slow-dance kind of romantic thing,” so this is just what he was looking for. And, he could relate the song. Luke thought about his own life and how busy he can get. Sometimes you just have to put the phone down and focus on the person you’re with and remember why you fell in love in the first place. Luke knew other people would be able to relate as well, and he was right!
“Strip It Down” hit the top of the chart in October and stayed for two weeks. It also became a three times platinum-selling song.
