We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…
Song: “Whiskey on You”
Songwriters: Nate Smith, Russell Sutton, and Lindsay Rimes
Album: Nate Smith
In January 2023, a newcomer by the name of Nate Smith reached number one for the first time in his career with debut single, “Whiskey on You.”
The inspiration behind the song was Nate’s recently ended relationship. He was feeling pretty bad. But, two days after the breakup, he traveled to a songwriting retreat. It didn’t take Nate long before he and his fellow writers put together a demo of what he was feeling.
When Nate went into the studio to record the song for his album, he felt that his original vocal on “Whiskey on You” couldn’t be beaten. Sometimes that emotion can’t be recaptured! So, what you’re hearing on the radio is the vocal that Nate sang at a kitchen table inside a lake house the day they wrote it.
Fans dug it and kept “Whiskey on You” at the top of the chart for two consecutive weeks.
